Sargent-Disc proposes a team approach to the consultation. Companies will work directly with Lara and John Sargent but also benefit from the support of Laurence Sargent and Sarah McKenzie
Consultancy by Sargent-Disc will be delivered by a combination of the following consultants: Lara Sargent, John Sargent, Dr. Laurence Sargent, and Sarah McKenzie. Companies will work with either Lara, John, Laurence or Sarah depending on their business development needs, and may work with a combination of consultants within the company.
Lara Sargent - Director
Lara began working in the industry in 1993 as a freelance assistant production accountant, later joining Sargent-Disc In 1999. Working directly on feature productions of all sizes, she understands the needs of small budget UK film-makers whilst also being aware of the requirements of major US studios. In addition to being a Director of Sargent-Disc she heads up Sargent-Disc’s Production Accounting and Production Services team. In 2015, Lara became treasurer of the Production Guild board, enabling her to take into account all sides of the film industry and has allowed her to work for the needs of PG members.
John Sargent - Founder
John’s production career spans 45 years. He started out as a location accountant working up the ranks to Production Controller. John recognized a need for the industry to have access to an efficient payroll service which understood Industry demands and legislation which could also provide supported accounting software and set up Sargent-Disc Ltd in 1986. In recent years John has specialised in providing training in Magic Budgeting and Vista accounting software packages working with the National Film and Television School (UK); the BBC; Pinewood Studios in the UK, Malaysia and the Dominican Republic; the Production Guild of Great Britain; BECTU and many independent film and television production companies. John brings his years of production accounting experience alive as a consultant and in the classroom.
Dr. Laurence Sargent – Director
Dr Laurence Sargent is a Director of Sargent-Disc and of several other companies in the media and technology sectors. He holds a first-class masters degree in electrical and electronic engineering and a doctorate from Bristol University where he published over 35 scientific papers and three patents in the field of semiconductor laser physics. He leads on the company’s product software development as well as its marketing and communications activity. Laurence is listed in Who's Who of Britain's Business Leaders (2010 & 2011) and Who's Who of Britain's Business Elite - Young Business Leaders (2009).
Sarah McKenzie - Business Development
Sarah’s role at Sargent-Disc involves developing and delivering business strategy and development across products and services internationally and building the company’s profile within the UK, Europe, Asia and North America.
Prior to this Sarah led the UK export promotion brief at the UK Film Council (UKFC) as Head of Export Unit for seven years, having previously been the organisation’s Head of International Marketing. She was Head of Marketing at the British Film Commission (2000 – 2003) to which she moved from her post as Festival Director for the Birmingham International Film and Television Festival, which she headed for six years.
