Urquhart Media was established in 2016 by Parisa Urquhart, a BAFTA winning Scottish/Persian director and producer based in Edinburgh, Scotland.
The company’s mission is to make ‘game-changing stories that challenge the status quo’. Urquhart Media does this by making factual content that encourages positive change - educational and informative with impact. These stories emerge from Scotland but resonate globally.
The company has produced and directed current affairs films for Channel 4 News, cinematic, educational and television documentaries. In 2021 Parisa won a BAFTA award in the ‘Single Documentary’ category for ‘Scotland, Slavery & Statues’, a BBC Scotland film that was highly acclaimed and attracted nationwide press. Parisa was also invited to be a BAFTA juror on the specialist factual category BAFTA 2021. In 2020 she won a Scottish Documentary Institute competition to direct a 30’ documentary ‘Long Live Livi’ for BBC about ‘The Snagglerats’, 7 year old girl skaters who attempt to save legendary Livingston Skatepark with encouragement from Tony Hawk. This documentary is now distributed worldwide.
Parisa has always had a passion for film and documentaries. This passion persisted during her previous careers in the sports and property industry. She eventually undertook filmmaking courses when living in Sydney, Australia. Following this, she worked on documentaries by Sydney media companies who had international clients such as the World Wildlife Fund. On her return to Scotland, Parisa established Urquhart Media Limited, enabling her to produce and direct her own content.
