The Highland Midgie was established by Brian Coffey in 2017 and their first production was feature film Get Duked! directed by Ninian Doff.

Set deep in the Scottish Highlands, Get Duked! is an anarchic cocktail of generational politics, hip-hop loving farmers, and hallucinogenic rabbit shites. The feature won the Audience Award in the Midnighters section at SXSW 2019 and was the opening film at Edinburgh International Film Festival 2019. Ninian Doff was nominated for Douglas Hickox Award for Directorial Debut at the British Independent Film Awards 2019. The film was bought by Amazon Studios and released internationally on Amazon Prime on 28th August 2020.

The Highland Midgie saw Sky Original film Borderland into production in 2022. The film is a 1970s-set revenge-filled action thriller starring Colin Morgan, Aml Ameen, Sophia Brown, Felicity Jones and Mark Strong. Borderland is directed by the Guard Brothers and will be available on Sky Cinema in 2022.

Coffey’s other producing credits include Our Ladies (dir. Michael Caton-Jones), Malevolent (dir. Olaf de Fleur), The Legend of Barney Thomson (dir. Robert Carlyle), Swung (dir. Colin Kennedy) and Citadel (dir. Ciaran Foy). He also served as co-producer on David Mackenzie’s Outlaw King and Starred Up.

The Highland Midgie currently has a number of film and television projects in active development.
